The mainstream media has made a point of lambasting red states that have lifted mask mandates and relaxed restrictions. According to the media’s narrative, loosening limitations will engender a surge in preventable coronavirus cases and deaths.
It turns out that reality does not support the political narratives of the media. In fact, red states like Florida and Texas that have relaxed restrictions are not leading in coronavirus cases; however, Michigan — a blue state that has suffered some of the harshest COVID-19 limitations — is leading the nation in not just coronavirus cases, but also hospitalizations.
According to Fox News, the coronavirus situation in Michigan is so dire that Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer actually asked the Biden administration for bigger batches of COVID-19 vaccines.
Bad News for Michigan
It is a fact that Michigan’s lockdowns, business restrictions, and mask mandates have not stopped them from suffering horrible virus outbreaks. Right now, Governor Whitmer is urging people not to travel, to stop playing in-person sports, etc; it’s not a good situation and Michigan got even more bad news last week.
The Michigan governor strongly supported Biden during his run for the presidency in 2020; the now-president even considered Whitmer as a possible vice-presidential candidate. Perhaps, the Michigan Democrat thought that her alliance with Biden would mean favors from his administration. If so, Whitmer learned otherwise days ago.
Detroit-area hospital is out of ventilators tonight for Covid patients, a source tells me. Michigan has almost as many people hospitalized now as the peak last April. It’s very bad.

In light of Michigan leading the nation in coronavirus cases, Whitmer requested more coronavirus vaccine doses from the Biden administration. During a news conference, the Michigan Democrat governor confirmed that she has personally spoken to President Biden to seek assistance and more vaccine doses for Michigan.
The Biden administration has ultimately declined to provide more vaccine doses to Michigan. According to the White House, it would be unfair for Michigan to get extra vaccine doses that would inevitably come from other states’ supplies.
What Happens for Michigan Now
Instead of providing new vaccine doses, the Biden administration has agreed to give Michigan greater federal assistance, more COVID-19 tests, and medicines.
I am excited to join millions of Michiganders in the fight against COVID-19 by getting the first dose of the safe, effective vaccine. All Michiganders are now eligible, and I urge all everyone to get vaccinated to protect you and your loved ones. Let’s beat this virus together. pic.twitter.com/GLnTF8MAsc

Right now in Michigan, over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases are reported on a daily basis. As things currently stand, the blue state appears largely on its own regarding the mitigation of this virus.
