Fauci clings to failed strategies as he heads for the exit door

The following is a news analysis.

As Dr. Anthony Fauci prepares to leave his longstanding position as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), he is clinging to what many scientists believe were failed strategies and approaches when it comes to the Covid pandemic.

By nearly every account, including a self-analysis conducted over the summer by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the federal public health system utterly failed at handling the pandemic even though trillions of taxpayer dollars were spent in advance to prepare for just such an eventuality.

Fauci’s agency even expended taxpayer money, prior to the pandemic, specifically to join with the Communist Chinese and prepare for what would happen if a harmful coronavirus jumped from bats into people. Yet when it really happened, it was as if the public health establishment were starting from scratch.

Many have concluded it was the US-funded gain-of-function research with Chinese scientists that likely created the pandemic. In other words; they believe if Fauci’s agency and other federal institutions had not funded the research — largely centered on finding a vaccine — it is likely there would have been no pandemic.

This may be one big reason why Fauci failed to disclose his ties to the controversial gain-of-function research and the Chinese scientists, as he pointed the public to what many scientists say is a far-fetched explanation for the pandemic: natural occurrence from a Chinese wet market that happened to be near the Wuhan lab where the research was being conducted.

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Fauci claimed he’s always been completely open minded about the idea of Covid-19 leaking from a lab.

“Where is Fauci on the lab leak theory?” asked NBC host Chuck Todd.

Fauci replied: “Yeah. I have a completely open mind about that, despite people saying that I don’t. I have a totally open mind about that. But if you look at the preponderance of evidence that has been accumulated by international group of highly respected evolutionary virologists, they feel — and they’ve written peer-reviewed papers on that — that the evidence strongly points to this being a natural occurrence of a jumping of a virus from a bat to an animal species to human. Hasn’t been definitively proven, but the evidence on that is pretty strong. Having said that, we still all have to keep an open mind as to what the origin is.”

As Fauci continues to point toward natural occurrence, the bulk of scientists close to the investigation concluded long ago that Covid-19 has all the hallmarks of man’s intervention.

Fauci was instrumental in leading the public away from the lab theory and, for a time, social media companies and other propaganda-driven media outlets controversialized the scientists and reporters, as well as President Trump, who voiced the now widely-accepted theory that Covid came from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.

In addition to existing in a state of denial about the likely lab origin of Covid, federal officials have yet to hold China accountable for not assisting in the origin investigation. To this day, officials say China has blocked the US from inspecting the Wuhan lab that the US had assisted with, and has failed to provide key information that some say could have helped fend off the pandemic wave.

In other words, many scientists believe China– and the US indirectly–are responsible for the most damaging pandemic that has ever hit the globe, destroying economies, decimating education and America’s youth, devastating businesses, obliterating supply chains and more. Yet no steps have been taken to hold China or its US funders accountable, or even to make sure it won’t happen again.

Also in the NBC interview, Fauci defended the failed Covid shutdowns and remained unchallenged on the topic.

Though he claimed the shutdowns were necessary to stop the spread so people could get vaccinated, we now know that the vaccines don’t prevent spread at all.

In fact, the number of cases and deaths skyrocketed after the vaccines were introduced and became widely used.

Fauci also said he was baffled by China’s vaccine strategy.

The Communist nation reportedly refuses to use “outside” vaccines. Fauci criticized the Chinese vaccines as “not particularly effective,” failing to note that the US vaccines– which he originally touted as a way to prevent Covid– prevent neither infection, illness or spread.

Additionally, Fauci was not asked about his many errors and contradictions when it comes to his Covid approach.

One of them was Fauci testifying under oath to Congress that Covid was 10 times deadlier than flu while, at the same time, he published a scholarly article stating that Covid’s death rate was about the same as a bad flu season.

In the end, scientists say, Covid is not as deadly as the flu for the vast majority of people.

Perhaps most alarming, as Fauci heads for the exit door of his public post, is that he recently touted the failed US Covid approach, calling it a model for next time.

He specifically stated that it was “very risky” to give vaccine makers immunity from liability for rushing a medicine to market that hadn’t been proven safe or effective; but that the same approach would be the way to go for the next pandemic.

Fauci has failed to fully answer Congressional questions about his financial interest in various commercial pharmaceutical products. He claimed he doesn’t keep close track of such things. In many industries, potential conflicts of interests are required to be fully disclosed with specificity.

A final question that could have been asked of Fauci would be about the explosion of allergies and infectious diseases, and the emergence of so many new acute and chronic illnesses, during the time he headed up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. At the same time, the agency expanded dramatically, receiving billions of tax dollars. However, the question remained unasked, and Todd thanked Fauci for his service.
