Alabama Governor Kay Ivy (R) signed a bill that prohibits the manufacture, sale, and distribution of lab-grown meat.
Vice President of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Erin Beasley, celebrated the bill in a Facebook statement, writing, “Cattlemen work hard every day to raise cattle and produce high-quality beef. The tireless efforts of Sen. Williams and Rep. Crawford this session will ensure Alabamians continue to purchase safe, wholesome, real beef.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) signed a similar bill earlier this month.
In a press release for the legislation, the governor said Florida is “fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals. Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef.”
While Western countries are under pressure to reduce meat consumption for the sake of so-called climate change, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) President Todd Wilkinson said last year that producing fake beef requires more energy and a greater carbon footprint.
“They can say that it’s designed to feed the world, but it’s feeding the world a non-natural product and it’s a product that is going to require more energy to produce, and don’t tell me it’s sustainable,” he said.
Meat products also improve immune function, according to a study.
“There are many studies trying to decipher the link between diet and human health, and it’s very difficult to understand the underlying mechanisms because of the wide variety of foods people eat. But if we focus on just the nutrients and metabolites derived from food, we begin to see how they influence physiology and pathology,” Jing Chen, Ph.D. said.
The study explained that trans-vaccenic acid (TVA), a fatty acid found in meat and dairy products, helps to eliminate cancer cells and may supplement cancer treatment.
TVA has the “potential for the treatment of tumors,” the authors wrote.
