These are unusual times. With the current exposure of corruption and malfeasance amongst our pharmaceutical, medical, and regulatory agencies, many are calling for a new direction and solutions for a better future. If we want to take down or remake the corrupt Pharmaceutical-Medical Industrial Complex, what do we have to replace it with? For starters, the time is ripe to reintroduce homeopathic medicine and bring it squarely into the conversation.
Homeopathy was once thriving in this country. However, the release of the Flexner Report of 1910, an initiative sponsored by John D. Rockefeller and backed by the pharmaceutical industry, decimated homeopathy. A new focus on patented medicines and reductionist science began to dominate medicine, while one of this country’s bedrock systems of healing, namely homeopathy, all but disappeared. A true medicine for the people, homeopathy is a gentle and profound system of healing, one fully aligned with American values—it is democratic, economical, health-promoting, and, above all, actually safe and effective for the treatment of both acute and chronic diseases.
At the turn of the 1900’s, there were 20 medical colleges training homeopaths. Approximately one-fourth of all medical practitioners in this country were homeopathic MDs. Today, as a result of the successful and nearly complete political suppression of homeopathy, only about 2% of the US population today has even heard of homeopathy. The average American has only the slightest inkling as to just what homeopathic medicine is—in spite of the fact that many of us regularly use some of homeopathy’s most highly prized first aid remedies. For example, Arnica montana, used to treat bumps and bruises,
and Calendula topical ointment, used to treat cuts and scrapes for pain relief, infection prevention, and bringing about more rapid healing are both readily accessible, over-the-counter homeopathic medicines.
