CDC ‘Face Diaper/Petri Dish’ (aka masks) Update Information

We’re all told to “follow the science,” right? Yet anytime we hear that from the establishment, it’s typically never preceded or followed by very much “science” at all. Well, I’m following the science as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and what their recently released information is telling me is that masks make a negligible difference than not wearing one at all. This is based on “the science.” Don’t blame me. Take it up with the CDC if you don’t like it.

While the CDC reported this new information on March 5 and continue to advise wearing a mask whenever possible, their actual data suggests that wearing a mask makes a very small impact on the daily Chinese coronavirus case rates and the daily Chinese coronavirus death rates.

In fact, the difference between wearing or not wearing a mask — if it were a poll or survey — would fall well within the margin of error. And for those that think there couldn’t be a big enough sample size, how’s 10 months? The report is based on information collected between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Without further ado, the CDC reported the following on March 5:

During March 1–December 31, 2020, state-issued mask mandates applied in 2,313 (73.6%) of the 3,142 U.S. counties. Mask mandates were associated with a 0.5 percentage point decrease (p = 0.02) in daily COVID-19 case growth rates 1–20 days after implementation and decreases of 1.1, 1.5, 1.7, and 1.8 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days, respectively, after implementation (p<0.01 for all) (Table 1) (Figure). Mask mandates were associated with a 0.7 percentage point decrease (p = 0.03) in daily COVID-19 death growth rates 1–20 days after implementation and decreases of 1.0, 1.4, 1.6, and 1.9 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days, respectively, after implementation (p<0.01 for all). Daily case and death growth rates before implementation of mask mandates were not statistically different from the reference period.

If we go by the data presented by the CDC above, at the high end, wearing a mask only decreased cases and death by 1.9 percent. And while saving just one life is a blessing, it only proves what I’ve been saying and what history has told us — during a pandemic you quarantine the sick from everyone else, not everyone arbitrarily.

But wait, that’s not all…
