DETROIT, MI – According to reports, at least three people were killed, and six others were injured in a school shooting that occurred at Oxford High School on November 30th. Officials have confirmed that the suspected shooter, identified as a 15-year-old student, was taken into custody.

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe stated during a press conference regarding the incident that the three deceased individuals are all believed to be high school students. As for the six others wounded in the incident, officials say that one of them was a teacher at the school.

Minutes before 1:00 p.m. on November 30th, authorities say the first 911 call came in about an active shooter at Oxford High School. Shortly thereafter, Undersheriff McCabe stated hundreds of calls started pouring into dispatch regarding the incident.

The identities of the injured and deceased victims have not been made public as of this writing, and the scene of the incident is reportedly still active as first responders are conducting secondary searches to ensure that all victims have been accounted for.

When police initially responded to the scene of the shooting, the unnamed suspect was reportedly taken into custody within five minutes of police arrival and without further incident, according to reports.

Oxford Community School confirmed the school shooting shortly after police secured the scene, issuing a statement detailing the then-active evacuation efforts for students so as to facilitate family reunification.

“Oxford High School students and staff are systematically being evacuated to the Meijer Garden Center and may be picked up there. Any students with their own transportation have been allowed to leave. All other district schools are in lockdown for safety purposes and are in no danger.”

A single handgun was recovered from the suspect, according to Undersheriff McCabe, and investigators on the scene recovered multiple shell casings which suggest somewhere between 15-20 shots were fired during the incident.

Undersheriff McCabe said that investigators believe the suspect acted alone during the incident but added that the juvenile in custody has invoked his right to remain silent since his apprehension. Due to the preliminary nature of the investigation, authorities have not presented any possible motive for the school shooting.
